昔日香港街道上光彩奪目、層層疊疊的霓虹招牌曾是訪客和本地人都難以忘懷的獨特奇觀。隨著城市日新月異的發展，這個香港特有的視覺語言亦續漸消失並受到取替。
信息設計研究室希望透過設立「香港霓虹資料庫」，紀錄超過500個現存和已被拆除的香港霓虹招牌，供研究及有興趣於香港視覺文化及香港視覺景觀的朋友作參考、教育及推廣。
