UBC introduces mental health literacy training for managers and supervisors

As of January 17, 2023, managers and supervisors will be invited to complete a new required training: Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers and Supervisors.

Update: Managers and supervisors can now enrol in the course on WPL.

This training will equip and empower UBC employees with managerial or supervisory responsibilities (including those who manage student staff) to support workplace mental health. It is one of the approved milestones recommended by the UBC Wellbeing Mental Health & Resilience Committee to help reach the goals outlined in the Wellbeing Strategic Framework.

On January 17, managers and supervisors will receive an email to enrol in the training, which will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The training will be available in the Workplace Learning ecosystem (WPL).

Developed by UBC HR’s Health, Wellbeing & Benefits team, specifically for leaders, Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers and Supervisors focuses on building mental health literacy, clarifying managers and supervisors’ responsibilities when it comes to building workplace psychological health and safety, and sharing important resources. People leaders are encouraged to complete the training and continue to build understanding of how to improve our own individual mental health and the mental health of our teams.

We ask managers and supervisors to meaningful engage in this training, within the next 45 days.

As a manager or leader, you play an important role in supporting your mental health and that of your teams. We encourage you to get involved and complete this training.
