A Walk Through Time

Construction work along the sidewalks on the south and south-east side of the Earth Sciences Building has started, as part of an exhibit extension of the Pacific Museum of Earth. The museum will be installing a ribbon of steel plates and displays providing a timeline of significant geological and biological events in Earth’s history.  The construction work is anticipated to be completed by end of April 2022.

The new A Walk Through Time exhibit is intended to engage and provide an interactive experience for the public. The Pacific Museum of Earth is Vancouver’s premier Earth Science museum. Located in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at The University of British Columbia, the museum provides an educational window into a wide range of topics including atmospheric science, oceanography, geology, environmental sciences, geological engineering, and planetary science.

What to expect during construction

  • Noise from saw-cutting concrete sidewalks and excavating a trench for electrical pathways using a small excavator. Earth Sciences Building’s Main Mall entrance/exit will be closed until March 31, 2022. Please use an alternate entrance/exit on the north, west, and south side of the building.
  • Regular construction noise around the work area due to the use of tools and equipment.
  • The ribbon of steel plates will be installed along the sidewalks on the south and south-east side of the Earth Sciences Building.
  • Portions of the sidewalks and landscaping will be fenced off along both the south and south east sides of the building.
  • One or more concrete trucks and delivery vehicles will be travelling up University Boulevard and along Main Mall to access site. Traffic control will be in attendance to ensure public safety.
