Khyentse Foundation gifts UBC Asian Studies $524,850
This donation funds the hiring of a post-doctoral research fellow or a visiting faculty member in Tibetan Buddhist Studies and a lecturer in Tibetan Language Studies. The funds will be administered over a five-year period and will re-establish Asian Studies as a major centre for the study of Tibetan Budhism and the Tibetan language.

Fuyubi Nakamura recieves the 2018 Canadian Museum Association Awards of Outstanding Achievement in Research
Winning in the Art Category, Traces of Words: Art and Calligraphy from Asia, led by Dr. Fuyubi Nakamura, aimed to enhance the understanding of the cultural significance of calligraphy across Asia. The project was on exhibition at the Museum of Anthropology from May to October in 2017.

Vancouver Summer Program to offer package on the diaspora and migration histories of Asians in Canada
Offered jointly by the Department of Asian Studies and the Asian Canadian and Asian Migration Studies Program, this two-course package, titled "Global Migration, Local Communities: Asian Canadian Histories," will be taught to undergraduate students of diverse academic backgrounds from different parts of the world. The class will consist of an exciting combination of class lectures, film screenings, field visits, museum tours and visits from community experts.

Khyentse Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow in Tibetan Buddhist Studies
This postdoctoral position is generously funded by the Khyentse Foundation. The successful Fellow will teach two courses for a year on topics related to Tibetan Buddhism: one undergraduate course, and either an additional undergraduate course or a graduate seminar. The Fellow will also be expected to conduct research on various topics of interest in Tibetan Buddhism. The deadline to apply is June 15, 2018.
Grant Tenure-Track instructor Position in UBC-Ritsumeikan Programs
The workload of the successful applicant will include teaching courses offered through the UBC-Ritsumeikan Programs and the Department of Asian Studies.Teaching assignments for the UBC-Ritsumeikan program may include undergraduate courses on topics such as Canadian Studies, Asia-Pacific Studies, and Transpacific Culture and for Asian Studies may include undergraduate courses on Japanese Literature, Film, or other related topics. The deadline to apply is June 25, 2018.
Taiwan Fellowship
Taiwan Fellowship is established by the Foreign Ministry in Taiwan to encourage scholars to do research in Taiwan, on topics ranging from Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, Asia-Pacific region to Chinese studies. The research term is 3-12 months and the finalists will begin their research in Taiwan in 2019. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2018.
