People of the VPFO

Shout outs

At the VPFO, we love celebrating success! Join us every week in recognizing the great work our VPFO team members are doing to support the university.

Facilities

  • Custodial Services and Buiding Operations' moving crew, carpenters and steamfitters – In August, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre users reported leak stains on the acoustic ceiling tiles, which are made from polyester fiber and are at least 20 feet high from the ground. The teams worked together to investigate and fix the leak and clean up the stains from the tiles at the busy building. Thanks to all the crews for their flexibility and coordinated effort!

Safety & Risk Services

  • Teela Narsih, Safety Advisor - Safety Programs — Special thanks to Teela for your leadership through Safety Day 2022. It was a resounding success thanks to your leadership and a keen team of volunteers. Great work!

Communications & Engagement

  • Yvonne Kwok, Communications Manager – Shout out to Yvonne for being an amazing team player who always listens and provides thoughtful and timely feedback. Keep up the great work!

Well done! Want to give someone a shout out in the next edition? Submit a kudos in your local recognition program or email communications@vpfo.ubc.ca

Pilot project to increase compliance with UBC Required Training

This month, staff who are not up to date on their UBC Required Training will receive a notification in Workday. Managers also have access to a report that outlines compliance for their team(s).

Please keep an eye out for this new notification and check that you are up to date on your UBC Required Training.  Further instructions on how to enroll in training and check your records in Workday will be available in the Workday notification.

Later this fall, the project team will be interested in your experience and feedback throughout the pilot. This will inform our approach as we expand the notifications to all employees across the university.

Led by Safety & Risk Services in collaboration with VP Human Resources and UBC IT, this project aims to increase compliance with required training, as mandated by legislation and UBC policies.

If you have questions about the training UBC offers, please contact support.wpl@ubc.ca.
