Free Nutrition Counselling Sessions
The BC Brain Wellness Program is pleased to be offering you the opportunity for a free virtual nutrition counselling session with a UBC dietetics student this Winter. At the session, the dietetics students will complete a nutrition assessment, which includes asking about your medical history, digestive health, and your food and health goals. They will then help you to better understand the roles of food for health and develop strategies to meet your food and nutrition goals. Wellness Wednesday: The Healthy Aging Brain
Wednesday, January 21st from 12 PM to 1 PM (on Zoom)
In the first Wellness Wednesday of the year, Clinical Neuropsychologist Dr. Jodie Gawryluk from the University of Victoria will present about different trajectories of aging, including cognitive decline, healthy aging and super aging. Brain function and brain structure will both be discussed. |

Sunset Meditation
Friday, January 23rd, from 7 PM to 9 PM (in-person)
In collaboration with the H. R. MacMillan Space Centre, you are invited to join us for a wellness-focused evening which combines a visually soothing planetarium experience with a meaningful conversation on mindfulness and resilience.
Participants will travel through a breathtaking visual journey and relax under a star-filled night sky, followed by a talk on mindfulness by David Greenshields. Hosted by Dr. Silke Cresswell and Alisa Hashimoto, this event explores practical, science-informed approaches to managing stress and supporting long-term well-being. Research Seminar Series: Are We Facing a Loneliness Epidemic, or Choosing Connection?
Thursday, February 12th, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM (on Zoom)
In the first Research Seminar Series of the year, Dr. Yeeun Archer Lee will present a series of studies on what is needed to improve human connection on multiple levels: An acts-of-kindness intervention to reduce loneliness at the individual level, neighborhood social cohesion as a resource for community resilience, and global trends in social support. Together, this talk discusses what it means to build more connected individuals and communities in an increasingly isolated world. Register below! |

In-Person Workshop: Brushstrokes of BC
Friday, February 13th, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM (in-person)
Join professional artist Sabine Fedder for a relaxing, beginner-friendly in-person watercolour workshop focused on painting iconic BC landscapes, including mountains and ocean scenery. This session will explore colour theory, watercolour techniques and mixing, and how to create depth in a painting.

Join us for another in-person Improv for Brain Health workshop, where you will connect with others, exercise your brain, and share some laughs! Through fun games and exercises, participants will learn improv skills and explore how they can be applied to life and fostering wellness. No improv experience is required, everyone is welcome! |

On January 28, join the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at UBC Robson Square for Reimagining the Mind: Innovations in Mental Health Research and Care, an evening exploring how brain science, emerging technologies and compassion are coming together to shape the future of mental health.
