Strategic Plan updates

Next up: Adam Rosenthal, Head, Tool Crib/Store shares his thoughts on driving continuous improvement in teams

Adam was one of the first people in the VPFO to complete their Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt. Applying his learnings to changes both big and small, Adam is now on his way to completing his Lean Green Belt — go Adam! 

Next week, Adam sits down with us to talk about the importance of knowledge sharing, and his experience with the Lean Six Sigma training program.

Finance

Comptroller, Finance & Operational Excellence and Treasury

  • Claiming unidentified wire transfers and direct deposits: Please check through the list of unidentified payments (updated as of April 1) to see if any payments belong to your department.
     
  • UBC reaffirmed with "AA+" rating from S&P Global: The rating conveys S&P Global Ratings' assessment that UBC has a very strong capacity to meet financial commitments and as such, UBC’s financial obligations are high quality and very low credit risk. Review the report
     
  • Increase in mileage rate as of March 31: UBC will be updating its mileage rate in alignment with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) prescribed rate. The new rates will be available in Workday as of Mar 31 but retroactively effective for travel dates beginning on Jan 1. Read more 
     
  • New Google Maps Distance Calculation for Mileage Expenses in Workday: Google Maps now syncs with Workday so that driving distances can be quickly and accurately determined when creating an Expense Report or Spend Authorization (Cash Advance) for mileage expenses in Workday. Learn more

  • Be a voice for campus safety: Stop by a pop-up in the AMS Nest on April 4 or April 5, between 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. to share your experience, feedback, and input on Campus Security. Learn about other ways you can participate
     
  • Access LinkedIn Learning through UBC HR website (previous site decommissioned): Faculty and staff can now sign up or login to their LinkedIn Learning account via the UBC HR website. View LinkedIn Learning
     
  • Guidance on safe social media usage: In view of the recent ban by the Government of Canada on the use of TikTok on government-issued devices, find out what you can do to safeguard your social media accounts on your personal and work devices. Learn more

  • Plumbing crew in Building Operations: Kudos to the plumbing crew for working collaboratively to identify and resolve the water issue at Ponderosa efficiently! Your speedy response helped minimize impacts on exams and building users. Great work!  

Safety & Risk Services

  • Joel Going, Lukasz Kowalski, Jonathan Crowell, Jonathan Valerio and William Theys: A big shout out to these Campus Security Patrol Officers from AMS Services for the support you've given the Peer Support team. Thank you for being there and helping the students feel safe! 
     
  • Campus Security: Thank you for your kind and empathetic response to the First Nations Longhouse incident. Your professionalism and care are much appreciated!

Welcome

  • Tracy Pham is joining VPFO Communications & Engagement as the the Manager, Digital & Creative on April 5. In her new role, Tracy aims to transform the digital channels of the VPFO and bring forth new enhancements to optimize the user experience.
  • Building Operations in Facilities is pleased to welcome Norman Rydings as Refrigeration Mechanic and Stott Graeme as Glazier/Waterproofer today. 
  • Telen Yeung joins Campus Security in Safety & Risk Services as a Patrol Officer. 
  • Selina Liu starts as Energy & Water Services as Energy Conservation Engineer on April 11. 

Congratulations 

  • Noel McNally has been promoted to Senior Project Manager in Project Services within Infrastructure Development, as of February 7.      

Farewell 

  • Farewell to Diane Blue,  Executive Assistant to Safety and Risk Services. Diane's official last day is April 17 but she will be taking vacation from April 3-17. Please join us in wishing her well in her new adventure! Below is a photo of her farewell celebration.
