  • 2023 Soft plastic and styrofoam pick-up schedule: Did you know that plastic bags and styrofoam are not currently recyclable at UBC’s sort-it stations? There are several collection points across campus for pickup. Learn more

Comptroller, Finance & Operational Excellence and Treasury

  • UBC publishes first Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Report: This is one of the first reports developed at a Canadian university, which demonstrates both UBC’s leadership in the international response to the climate emergency, as well as the university’s initiative in actively measuring and improving environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors. Read the report 
     
  • Claiming unidentified wire transfers and direct deposits: Please check through the list of unidentified payments (updated as of Jan 19) to see if any payments belong to your department.   
     
  • Workday: New Process for Changing a Current Position's Compensation Type: When an employee’s current position is changing from hourly to salaried or vice versa, Managers can now update the position’s compensation type using Change Job. Learn more

  • Utility Plumbing team in Building Operations –Thank you to the team for their efforts in assisting UBC researchers and BCCDC with the weekly wastewater sample and data collection. Your willingness to always help out, and “go the extra mile” attitude are so very much appreciated – along with your smiles and good humor! 

Finance & Operations

  • June Zhu – Kudos to June for developing a powerful and user-friendly dashboard that enables follow-up and improvement of supplier goods/services receipts in Workday by the Procurement Services Team. Your collaboration and teamwork are appreciated! 

Safety & Risk Services

  • Eve Neesham-Grenon, Peggy Paduraru, Sharlene Eivemark, and Richard Wambolt – Kudos to the hardworking Research Safety teams who have been delivering training nonstop since our return from the holiday break. Great work! 

  • Shilan Keshvadi – Shout out to Shilan for completing two years of Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (JOHSCs) evaluations for the university’s 23 JOHSCs. Great start to the new year!

  • Samantha Tsui – Thanks for all the hard work you put in to support Financial Operations. The changes you made along with the advice you gave on our communications puts us in a much better position to service the community. You're always a pleasure to work with!

  • Alysa Garza joins the VPFO as HR Coordinator today
     
  • Silvia Magnano joins Treasury as Manager, Treasury Contracts & Real Estate. 
     
  • Fabiola Ruiz-Aguilar has joined Safety & Risk Services as Safety Advisor, Scientific Diving. 
     
  • Annie Mullins has been promoted to Manager, Strategic Initiatives in the VPFO Communications & Engagement team. In this role, Annie will lead the development, execution, and evaluation of the Communications & Engagement projects outlined in the VPFO strategic plan, as well as supporting other enabling projects. 
  • Farewell to Mitra Jani, Buyer within Finance & Operational Excellence, supporting Project Services. Her last day is tomorrow, January 31. Your positive energy will be missed and we wish you all the best in your next opportunity. 

  • Farewell to Natalie Pang, whose last day will be January 31. As Natalie departs, Jyoti Kaveri with Hiring Solutions will step into the role of Administrative Assistant to the Comptroller on February 3. We wish you all the best, Natalie, and welcome to the VPFO, Jyoti!

Bang Dang, Technician, Environmental Services | Safety & Risk Services

Our team, aka the Three Amigos Team at the Environmental Services Facility, handles the transportation and disposal of 70 tonnes of hazardous waste at UBC each year — from disposal of harmful acid, 400 kg of baby sturgeon to 1000 kg of elephant seal. Learn more about what makes our job unique

EDI: Workplace Accessibility at UBC 

The Centre for Workplace Accessibility (CWA) is a central hub for resources, tools, and programs that help remove barriers for faculty and staff with disabilities or ongoing medical conditions.

CWA offers a number of campus accessibility resources, including a checklist for accessible events and a toolkit for accessibility and inclusion.
