Call for Nominations

Governor General's Gold Medal

Call for nominations for 2022 Governor General’s Gold Medal Award is now open. One gold medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the most outstanding academic record as a doctoral student. A second gold medal is awarded to the graduate student who has achieved most outstanding academic record as a Master’s student completing a thesis. Medals are presented on behalf of the Governor General of Canada by participating educational institutions, along with a personalized certificate signed by the Governor General. There is no monetary award associated with the medals.

Each Faculty of Medicine graduate program may nominate one applicant per category (PhD and MSc-thesis) and submit their application packages through the Online Portal to the Dean of Medicine’s Office. After adjudication, Faculty of Medicine may nominate up to two students to the G+PS, one for the Master’s medal and one for the doctoral medal. | FoM internal nomination deadline: Mar 2

UBC Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards

In recognition of the valuable role that teaching assistants play in our graduate and undergraduate programs, the university annually awards sixteen Killam Graduate Teaching Awards to UBC Teaching Assistants. The Killam GTA Award includes a certificate and a $1,000. The sixteen awards, given annually, reinforce the important message to students that UBC values teaching and seeks to recognize teaching excellence within our institution. | Nomination to Director/Head of Unit deadline: Mar 4

UBC Faculty of Medicine Distinguished Researcher Awards

The Faculty of Medicine recognizes our outstanding researchers with this award. Candidates are nominated by fellow faculty members on the basis of a distinguished research career, recognition in the research community, contributions to student educational growth, and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion over the past year. One award will recognize outstanding foundational (previously Basic) science research in the areas of health and life sciences. One award will recognize outstanding clinical or applied research to improve health outcomes of populations. Acceptance of this award is accompanied by a lecture at the annual “Building the Future: Faculty of Medicine Research Trainee Day & Lecture Series”.

Nominees must be senior faculty in the UBC Faculty of Medicine at the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching, Professor of Teaching, Associate Professor, or Professor, with distinguished research careers.
