Call for Volunteers: Tonari Gumi Booths at the Powell Street Festival
The Powell Street Festival is coming up on August 3 and 4, and Tonari Gumi needs your help to make it a success! This fun event celebrates Japanese Canadian culture, and there are many ways you can get involved through Tonari Gumi. Volunteers are needed for: Food Booths, Community Booths, Kitchen at Tonari Gumi, Festival Prep (July 29 - August 2), Moving Volunteers (August 2), and Wrap-Up Volunteers. Whether you can help for a few hours or the whole weekend, please email Rie Bucci as soon as possible if you are interested.
Call for Volunteers: Powell Street Festival 2024
The Powell Street Festival Society is looking for volunteers for its 48th Annual Powell Street Festival. The festival is a celebration of Japanese Canadian arts and culture that includes musical performances, traditional dance, an amateur sumo wrestling competition, lots of Japanese food, and more! They are looking to fill a wide variety of positions, including but not limited to volunteer booth registration, set-up and take-down, Master of Ceremonies (MC), children’s tent volunteer, photography/videography. Submit applications as soon as possible.

For almost 50 years, Tonari Gumi has been building relationships and connections with the Japanese Canadian community throughout Metro Vancouver. Tonari Gumi is currently looking for Japanese speakers and learners interested in working as volunteers with opportunities including assisting with iPad classes, engaging in conversations with seniors, participating in activities together, and helping with fundraising events. If you're interested in being involved in a Japanese environment and experiencing Japanese culture, join the team!
