2022 FoM Multidisciplinary Research Program in Medicine (MRPM)

The Faculty of Medicine is excited to announce that the Multidisciplinary Research Program in Medicine (FoM MRPM) is relaunching for Summer 2022. The aim of this program is to facilitate and fund interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research at UBC. Project applications require two faculty supervisors: one from the FoM and the other a non-FoM UBC faculty member. Students and supervisors apply separately. Supervisors will be provided a list of eligible students following project approval. Supervisors will receive up to three students, two non-MD undergraduate students (in their second year or higher) for 16-weeks ($8,400 student stipend) and one optional first-year MD student for 8-weeks ($3,200 student stipend). Supervisors are required to pay at least $2,400 per non-MD student contingent on eligible student awards.

Applications should be submitted in research pairs and supervisors should search for a partner capable of providing specific research expertise. Finding a research partner is the responsibility of the supervisor; however, we can help facilitate a research partnership if a supervisor is unable to find a suitable research partner (email: med.studentresearch@ubc.ca). To be eligible, both supervisors must have a current faculty appointment (instructor or higher, including clinical) at UBC. If the supervisor has a student in mind for their research project it is the responsibility of the supervisor to ensure the student applies separately via the student portal. Supervisor pairs must also name a postgraduate student advisor in their lab who will help facilitate the research project. The deadline to apply for project funding is January 20th, 2022. Student applications will open in February. More details will be provided on the website and any further questions can be addressed to med.studentresesarch@ubc.ca.
