BC Brain Wellness Program

August 15th, 2023
Program Highlights
World Parkinson's Congress
In July, Dr. Silke Appel-Cresswell and Elaine Book represented the BCBWP at the 6th World Parkinson’s Congress in Barcelona, Spain - a conference attended by researchers, physicians, allied health care professionals, people with Parkinson’s and care partners. We presented posters on the Intergenerational Storytelling Project and the Care Partner Program and on the BCBWP in general, with this last poster prestigiously selected to be part of a poster tour. From formal expert talks to engaging in the various activities each day, we came back even more inspired and excited to share and implement the knowledge learned on the international scene.

BCBWP Crafters for a Cause - Feeling Good by Doing Good
Last week, the Crafters for a Cause group collectively donated hand made items for Mamas for Mamas. This is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. Our group members individually crafted and collectively donated a wide variety of items including knit hats, slippers and blankets, quilted blankets, craft kits for kids, pottery, stuffed animals, tote bags, beaded bracelets, and many other items to bring joy.

The next project beginning in the fall will be working the Tertiary Mental Health and Substance Use in patient units at VGH. If you are interested in more information on how to get involved, join our September meeting (registration with the BWP fall program launch) or email elaine.book@vch.ca.

If you have any yarn you would like to donate to our projects, please contact elaine.book@vch.ca
