Recipients of the 2022 Catalyst Grants

UBC FoM Precision Health is pleased to announce 7 proposals received precision health catalyst grant funding in our first round, for a total allocation of $345K. The funded projects are led by investigators from various UBC faculties, departments, and research institutes, and address several important areas in precision health including cancer, women’s health, childhood health, and autism.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who submitted proposals and those who are working on funded projects. We would also like to acknowledge the financial contributions from the UBC FoM research institutes: BC Cancer Research Institute, BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Providence Research, and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. We continue to strive to enable collaboration and coordination of precision health activities at UBC, as we work together to transform health for everyone.


Next Catalyst Grant Round

The next round of Precision Health Catalyst Grant will be announced later this year with the proposal submission deadline in early 2023. Stay tuned for upcoming dates and deadlines.

Spotlights

Meet Dr. Chris Carlsten (left) and Dr. Parveen Bhatti (right).

Dr. Carlsten is a Professor of Medicine, Head of the Division of Respiratory Medicine, and the Precision Health Lead at the Faculty of Medicine. He is also the Director of the Air Pollution Exposure Laboratory and of Legacy for Airway Health. Dr. Carlsten is an active respirologist, welcoming patients with concerns regarding occupational or environmental exposures contributing to respiratory disease including rhinitis, asthma, COPD, and interstitial lung disease

Dr. Bhatti is a Senior Scientist at BC Cancer and an Associate Professor in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH). He is also the Scientific Director of the BC Generations Project (BCGP). Dr. Bhatti is an active epidemiologist whose international research program focuses on the use of molecular markers to improve understanding of occupational and environmental risk factors for cancer and identify potential targets for intervention.
