BC Brain Wellness Program

August 28th, 2023
Program Highlights
Fall Program
September 11- December 15

Registration for the Fall Program is open. To allow more people to participate, we ask that you limit your participation to no more than 5 classes per week and only register for classes that you are able attend. We thank you for your consideration while we continue to find solutions for our capacity challenges.

Musical Movements will not be part of our class programming this fall. However, there are research opportunities available. If contributing as we learn more about music interventions is of interest to you, Cynthia Friesen will be offering a music research study. Stay tuned for more information in our newsletter and website and in the meantime, engage your voice with Cynthia, through this video.

BCBWP In-Person Classes at BodyWorks Gym (UBC)

Bodyworks has collaborated with the BCBWP to offer in-person, evidence-based, exercise classes for people with chronic brain conditions. These classes are opportunities to provide an immersive, hands-on learning environment for students, and for participants to receive face-to-face exercise instruction. These circuit style classes include bodyweight and resistance exercises to develop strength and aerobic fitness, as well as agility, gait training and balance exercises to improve functional movement. They also feature coordination and cognitive exercises to challenge the brain.

Exercise programming is not condition specific, and all exercises are designed to be adaptable and accessible to participants regardless of fitness level. Participants must be able to stand and walk independently with or without assistive devices (cane or walker), able to follow instructions and communicate with the instructor, medically stable, and independent in making transfers and using the washroom.

If you are interested in participating in these classes, please call Bodyworks at 604-827-6959 or register your interest here

BCBWP Lending Library

The BCBWP aims to foster greater engagement and collaboration within our program. Thanks to a Workplace and Community Grant, provided by the Ministry of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion of Canada, we can now provide our participants the tools they need to succeed in their classes. These funds allowed us to launch this small lending library or exercise and technical equipment to participants free of cost. We welcome all participants who may not have access to exercise and technical equipment due to either financial, geographical or external constraints to apply for equipment rental.

Please note that our supply is limited. Equipment will be distributed as needed and sustained.
