Building a net zero carbon student space on campus

UBC Facilities is working with the UBC student team to start construction of a new student space on campus that redefines sustainable design, and aims to build a net-zero student space on campus. 

The 247-square-metre building, officially known as the Third Space Commons, will serve as a collaborative working space and living laboratory for students, industry partners and researchers to investigate zero emission, regenerative and climate-resilient design.

Emergency tip: Grab-and-go bag 

In the event of an emergency, you may need to leave your home in a hurry. Make sure to have a smaller version of your home emergency kit in an easy-to-access location in your home.  

A Grab-and-go bag should have the following items: 

  • Food (ready to eat) and water 
  • Phone charger and battery bank 
  • Small battery-powered or hand-crank radio 
  • Flashlight 
  • Small first-aid kit and personal medications 
  • Cash in small bills 
  • Seasonal clothing   
  • Whistle
