Six proposals led by Early Career Researchers receive precision health catalyst grant funding

We are pleased to announce 6 proposals have been funded through the 2022/2023 UBC Faculty of Medicine Precision Health Catalyst Grant Round. The PH Catalyst Grant Review Committee consisting of 12 Faculty members from different departments and research institutes reviewed 11 proposals against evaluation criteria and recommended 6 proposals to be funded at $50,000 each.

We congratulate the following successful recipients:

  • Drs. Rachel Murphy and Andrew Roth
  • Drs. Anna Blakney and Jayachandran Kizhakkedathu
  • Drs. Gang Wang, Xiaoxiao Li, and Diana Ionescu
  • Drs. Eric McGinnis and Ryan Stubbins
  • Drs. Annie Ciernia and Sheila Teves
  • Drs. Ying Wang and Joshua Dubland

Next Catalyst Grant Round

The next round of Precision Health Catalyst Grant will be announced later this year with the proposal submission deadline in early 2024. Stay tuned for upcoming dates and deadlines.

Drs. Kasmintan Schrader (left) and Stephen Yip (right), are recipients of the UBC Faculty of Medicine 2021/2022 Precision Health Catalyst Grant award for their project titled “Parent-of-Origin-Aware Hereditary Cancer Diagnostic and Cascade Genetic Testing”.

Drs. Schrader and Yip discuss the results from their project and how the use of cutting edge STRAND-Seq and epigenome-wide profiling on the Oxford Nanopore Technology- Long Read Sequencing (ONT-LRS) platform has been instrumental for their research.

"We are investigating precision health tools to help guide screen and prevention intervention, in an effort to reduce the incidence of endometrial cancer and to promote early detection"

Drs. Aline Talhouk (left) and Anna Tinker (right), are recipients of the UBC Faculty of Medicine 2021/2022 Precision Health Catalyst Grant award for their project titled “Risk evaluation and omics screening for targeting prevention in endometrial cancer”.

Drs. Talhouk and Tinker are entering the second phase of their study where participants that have an increased risk of endometrial cancer will undergo a second screening through a progesterone challenge test.
