National Ataxia Foundation: Research Seed Money Grant 
Description: For new and innovative studies that are relevant to the cause, pathogenesis or treatment of the hereditary or sporadic ataxias. Research grants are offered primarily as “seed monies” to assist investigators in the early or pilot phase of their studies and as additional support for ongoing investigations on demonstration of need.
Amount: $50,000

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: Clinical Research Award NEW
Description: provide support for investigator-initiated clinical research projects that have the potential to make an important contribution to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission. Research projects may address diagnosis, treatment, management of disease or symptom, or the pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis using clinical (observational/interventional), translational, or epidemiologic study approaches.

Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology: Dr. David L. Epstein Award

Royal Society of Canada College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists 

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists is Canada’s first national system of multidisciplinary recognition for the emerging generation of Canadian intellectual leadership. Members of the College are Canadians and Permanent Residents who, at an early stage of their career, have demonstrated a high level of achievement. The criteria for election is excellence, and membership is for seven years. 

Candidates must be no more than 15 years from the conferral of the PhD or equivalent qualification. For the cohort of 2024 (due Dec 2023), a candidate must have received their PhD or equivalent no earlier than January 1, 2009. Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship 
The Faculty of Medicine has launched an internal selection process to nominate up to 2 candidates for the Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship, offered by the UBC VP Research and International office. The award includes a one-time research allowance of $50,000, and the successful recipient's academic unit will receive $60,000 over 2 years to help offset teaching load. | Internal nomination deadline: Oct 24
