UBC Faculty of Medicine: New Faculty Research Award
Description: The New Faculty Research Award is for faculty members in the first two years of their first full-time faculty appointment as Assistant Professor (or higher), or Adjunct Professor in the UBC Faculty of Medicine as of the application deadline. This year, applications are accepted from Clinical Faculty members within four years of their first Clinical faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor or higher. The funds may be used for research equipment, research supplies and/or research services, and research support salaries.
Amount: up to $10,000

UBC Peter Wall Legacy Awards: Wall Research Awards (Faculty)
Description: support for research relating to three areas of interest: (1) Sustainable approaches to and development of the general urban environment, including water, energy and transportation infrastructure in British Columbia; (2) Environmental protection of oceans, beaches and waterfronts that impact British Columbia; and (3) Sustainable approaches to resource-intensive industry in British Columbia.
Amount: up to $200,000 (team); up to $80,000 (individual)

Description: provides opportunities for assistant professors to bring multidisciplinary approaches to studying human infectious diseases.

National Eczema Association: Childhood Eczema Challenge Grant NEW

Royal-Mach-Gaensslen Prize for Mental Health Research The prestigious Royal-Mach-Gaensslen Prize for Mental Health Research is awarded each year to an outstanding rising star researcher in the field of mental health, to recognize, encourage and support them as they pursue their research interests and goals. The annual national prize provides $100,000 in funding to Canadian early-career researchers (45 years or younger) with a demonstrated track record in research; excellence in scientific rigor, innovative thinking, imagination and originality; and a clear ability to work in partnership with other disciplines and/or research teams external to the institution with which they are affiliated. | Deadline: July 15, 2024

UBC Research Security: Navigating Research Security Policies When Applying for Federal Funding NEW
Description: Join us for a session delivered by the VPRI Research Security team on research security, the new Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC) released by the Government of Canada and how it relates to Canadian federal funding from the Tri-Agencies and CFI. This session will provide UBC researchers with guidance on how to navigate these new policies, as well as examples of sensitive research areas and research security case studies.

'EDI in Research' online course is now available through UBC Workplace Learning NEW
Description: This new online course is specifically developed for faculty, staff and students involved in research, to support the learning and implementation of appropriate equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) practices within the UBC research ecosystem. Development of this course was a collaboration between units in the Vice-President, Research and Innovation portfolio and the Equity and Inclusion Office. Course participants who engage with the course are encouraged to complete the course evaluation survey by August 6, 2024. Feedback from the survey will be used to improve course content and delivery.
