Parkinson's Foundation: Impact Awards NEW
Description: Designed for researchers both established and new to the field of PD. Projects should be "outside the box" with the goal of bringing new light to the biology of Parkinson's, a new approach to Parkinson’s research, or testing a truly novel therapeutic idea. Projects should be based on unconventional ideas that are unlikely to be funded through more traditional funding mechanisms.
Amount: $150,000

Description: The TANGO2 Research Foundation (T2RF) research grants provides essential funding for seed or pilot research projects, fostering the exploration of groundbreaking research concepts. These awards support initial testing phases, allowing researchers to embark on smaller-scale endeavors. The emphasis lies in evaluating feasibility and refining methodologies, shaping the trajectory of potential larger-scale studies. Through this funding mechanism, we empower researchers to take innovative ideas from conception to a vital stage of validation, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and discovery.

UBC Health: Health After 2020 Call for Proposals
Description: Supports innovation in knowledge translation, providing funding to teams to support research collaborations and capacity building in knowledge translation. Researchers at UBCV and UBCO are invited to submit a proposal for projects that utilize creative and innovative knowledge translation methods. 
Amount: $10,000

Fulbright Canada: Research Chairs NEW 
Description: Fulbright Canada Research Chairs are pre-arranged affiliations that allow scholars to conduct research/lecture on subjects important to that university. Partner universities are excited to welcome the Fulbright Canada Research Chairs into campus life and encourage them to engage with students, faculty, and the broader community. Fulbright Canada Research Chairs can guest lecture in university courses, mentor students, lecture in public venues, network, and promote their research, while representing the Fulbright program, and their home and host institutions.
Amount: $25,000 - $50,000 (USD)

Fulbright Canada: Scholar Program NEW 
Description: The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides the opportunity for outstanding Canadian scholars to lecture and/or conduct research in the United States. Award recipients include prominent and promising scholars, as well as experienced professionals.
Amount: $12,500 - $50,000 (USD)

France Canada Research Fund (FCRF): New Research Collaboration Program
Description: promotes partnerships between researchers in Canada and France, open to every field of expertise and promotes interdisciplinary projects.  The program provides funding for new scientific projects jointly developed by French and Canadian teams that have never worked together before. To be considered for UBC’s internal selection, researchers must email their applications directly to UBC’s FCRF correspondent, Heather Frost (heather.frost@ubc.ca), as a single PDF.

Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Next Gen Pregnancy Initiative NEW 
Description: The initiative is designed to stimulate both creative individual scientists and multi-investigator teams to approach healthy and adverse pregnancy outcomes using creative basic and translation science methods. The formation of new connections between reproductive scientists and investigators who are involved in other areas is particularly encouraged.
Amount: up to $500,000

American Gastroenterological Association: Research Scholar Award NEW
Description: Supports early-career investigators working toward independent and productive research careers in digestive diseases by ensuring that a major proportion of their time is protected for research.

UBC & SFU: Implementation Science Institute 
Description: The implementation science (IS) institute is a two-year training program targeted towards early to mid-career health researchers (from wide range of health-related topics and disciplines in psychology, urban planning, gerontology, biomedical engineering, health geography, health education and promotion, etc) who are interested in or embarking on projects that encompass the science of implementation.

UBC Centre for Health Education Scholarship: Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) Canada & Clinical Educator Fellowship Program NEW 
Description: The MHPE is a two-year, part-time, internationally recognized, research degree program that is primarily distance-based with annual, three week courses that are delivered on-site. The Clinical Educator Fellowship Program is designed for those interested in developing an academic career as a Clinical Educator and boasts many education leaders as active alumni.

Call for Nominations

Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prize

Designed to support research collaboration across UBC in Vancouver and the Okanagan by providing funding to: initiate new, or strengthen existing research collaborations; enable travel to access unique infrastructure/core facilities at each location or to hold research meetings; support travel, per diems, and accommodations for UBC researchers.

Two prizes in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded to full-time Postdoctoral Fellows at UBC in recognition of outstanding research and scholarly contributions while at UBC. All fields of research are included.

Nomination packages must be submitted to us at med.gradpostdoc@ubc.ca by the internal deadline of Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 5:00 PM PST. The Faculty of Medicine will adjudicate the nominations and send two nominees to the G+PS Postdoctoral Fellows Office by December 6, 2023.

NSERC: Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering 

This prize recognizes outstanding Canadian teams of researchers from different disciplines who have combined their expertise to produce achievements of outstanding international significance in the natural sciences and engineering in the last six years. The prize is accompanied by a team research grant of up to $250,000, which may be used to support the direct costs of university-based research and/or the enhancement of research facilities. | Deadline: November 28

These awards honour individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to strengthening the BC clinical trials ecosystem. Killam Teaching Prizes 2024 NEW

UBC Killam Teaching Prizes are UBC’s most prestigious teaching awards. The UBC Killam Teaching Prizes recognize excellence in teaching in the medical and science undergraduate programs, residency programs, school and graduate programs within the Faculty of Medicine. King Faisal Prize in Medicine 2024

The King Faisal Prize (KFP) recognizes the outstanding works of individuals and institutions in five major categories: Service to Islam, Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, Medicine, and Science. Its aim is to benefit Muslims in their present and future, inspire them to participate in all aspects of civilization, as well as enrich human knowledge and develop mankind. KFP laureates are evaluated only based on merit and their works are meticulously examined by specialized selection committees. The strict selection procedure meets international standards, and many of the laureates who have been awarded the prize went on to receive other prestigious prizes, such as the Nobel Prize. | FoM internal nomination deadline: March 15, 2024

Event: UBC Data Science and Health - We, the Data: Human Rights in the Digital Age (Dr. Wendy Wong) NEW
Description: This talk will discuss some of the key themes from We, the Data: Human Rights in the Digital Age, which is a new book published by MIT Press. Human rights are one of the major political innovations of the 20th century. Their emergence after World War II and global uptake promised a new world in which human autonomy, community, dignity, and equality could be protected. Datafication, however, poses some unique challenges for our human rights framework because they are "sticky" and ubiquitous in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). The talk focuses on five takeaways from the book that ties AI and data to human rights.
