Description: Funding offered to reserchers from UBCV and UBCO to address specific research question identified by the Ministry of Health.

UBC VP Research & Innovation: Research Facility Support Grants 
Description: Funding may be used to cover materials, supplies, replacement of broken parts, and minor upgrades essential to the operation and maintenance of the facility or shared equipment, as well as bridge funding for salaries of research support staff employed to operate and maintain the facility and provide assistance to users.
Amount: $50,000
Duration: 1 year

CIHR Team grant: Pediatric Rare Disease Clinical Network NEW
Description: 
This investment will catalyze the creation of a Pediatric Rare Disease Clinical Network to streamline rare diseases clinical research across Canada and to facilitate the collaboration among researchers across pillars, people with lived and living experience (e.g., patients, family, caregivers), health care providers, industry, policy and regulatory bodies.

SATB2 Gene Foundation: Research Grant Program NEW
Description: 
To drive research momentum, the SATB2 Gene Foundation Board is highly interested in research proposals that would create pilot data sufficient to support larger scale grant submissions to other funding sources. The SATB2 Gene Foundation prioritizes the following areas in SAS research, based on high impact needs identified by a recent independent scientific analysis and caregiver input: speech and language, behaviour, sleep, and global developmental delays.

CIHR Team grant: Improving Health and Administrative Data and Monitoring for Rare Diseases NEW
Description: 
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support implementation research to determine the prevalence, direct cost, and burden of rare diseases in the Canadian health care systems. This effort will enable prospective research for patients in Canada by allowing their identification in the administrative databases.

Description: 
This funding opportunity will support research that will determine the best pathway to diagnose RDs by moving genomic testing towards the front end of the care pathway, taking into consideration optimal integration in clinical care, ethical legal and social aspects, and resources required to support this integration.

CIHR Team grant: Lung Health NEW
Description: 
to fund interdisciplinary teams that will address ongoing, new and emerging threats to lung health by improving the understanding of biological, social, environmental and behavioural effects on lung health. Collectively, these teams will develop and disseminate evidence-based solutions for better lung health and overall wellness, including a focus on health disparities; equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) analyses; and Indigenous contexts.

Description: Supports innovation in knowledge translation, providing funding to teams to support research collaborations and capacity building in knowledge translation. France Canada Research Fund (FCRF): New Research Collaboration Program
Description: promotes partnerships between researchers in Canada and France, open to every field of expertise and promotes interdisciplinary projects.  The program provides funding for new scientific projects jointly developed by French and Canadian teams that have never worked together before. To be considered for UBC’s internal selection, researchers must email their applications directly to UBC’s FCRF correspondent, Heather Frost (heather.frost@ubc.ca), as a single PDF.

UBC & SFU: Implementation Science Institute NEW
Description: 
The implementation science (IS) institute is a two-year training program targeted towards early to mid-career health researchers (from wide range of health-related topics and disciplines in psychology, urban planning, gerontology, biomedical engineering, health geography, health education and promotion, etc) who are interested in or embarking on projects that encompass the science of implementation.

Call for Nominations

Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship 
The Faculty of Medicine has launched an internal selection process to nominate up to 2 candidates for the Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship, offered by the UBC VP Research and International office. The award includes a one-time research allowance of $50,000, and the successful recipient's academic unit will receive $60,000 over 2 years to help offset teaching load. | Internal nomination deadline: Oct 24

Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prize

Designed to support research collaboration across UBC in Vancouver and the Okanagan by providing funding to: initiate new, or strengthen existing research collaborations; enable travel to access unique infrastructure/core facilities at each location or to hold research meetings; support travel, per diems, and accommodations for UBC researchers.

Two prizes in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded to full-time Postdoctoral Fellows at UBC in recognition of outstanding research and scholarly contributions while at UBC. All fields of research are included.

Nomination packages must be submitted to us at med.gradpostdoc@ubc.ca by the internal deadline of Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 5:00 PM PST. The Faculty of Medicine will adjudicate the nominations and send two nominees to the G+PS Postdoctoral Fellows Office by December 6, 2023.

The Governor General’s Innovation Awards will be given to individuals, teams and/or organizations whose innovations are truly exceptional, transformative and positive in their impact on the quality of life in Canada. | Internal deadline: November 4

NSERC: Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering NEW

This prize recognizes outstanding Canadian teams of researchers from different disciplines who have combined their expertise to produce achievements of outstanding international significance in the natural sciences and engineering in the last six years. The prize is accompanied by a team research grant of up to $250,000, which may be used to support the direct costs of university-based research and/or the enhancement of research facilities. | Deadline: November 28

Clinical Trials BC Awards 2024

These awards honour individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to strengthening the BC clinical trials ecosystem. Award recipients exemplify excellence in leadership, advocacy for clinical trials, and outstanding service and support to advance clinical trials research and improve the health of people across British Columbia.

King Faisal Prize in Medicine 2024

The King Faisal Prize (KFP) recognizes the outstanding works of individuals and institutions in five major categories: Service to IslamIslamic StudiesArabic Language and LiteratureMedicine, and Science. Its aim is to benefit Muslims in their present and future, inspire them to participate in all aspects of civilization, as well as enrich human knowledge and develop mankind. KFP laureates are evaluated only based on merit and their works are meticulously examined by specialized selection committees.
