Wall Research Awards (Faculty) are available annually to UBC faculty members through the Peter Wall Legacy Fund, an endowment established by Peter Wall, to support research excellence at UBC and invest in those who will help move BC and the world forward. Notice of Intent (NOI) is due February 24, and the full application deadline is April 25.
Applications Open: Wall Fellowships
The Wall Fellowships aims to recognize UBC faculty who have made, and continue to make, outstanding contributions to research and institutional service at UBC, or at prior academic institutions, in the areas of sustainable urban development, water, energy, transportation infrastructure, environmental protection of oceans and waterfronts, and resource-intensive industry. Two Wall Fellowships of $1,000,000 are available annually to UBC faculty members. Notice of Intent (NOI) is due February 24, and the full application deadline is May 13.
Call for Papers: The 9th Annual Hasekura International Symposium
The 9th Annual Hasekura International Symposium will be focused on the metaphors and concepts of possession and dispossession. This symposium invites the consideration of such topics and related concerns, in an interdisciplinary environment. We invite scholars in all fields of the humanities and social sciences to join us and present their research and insights. Researchers interested in joining us and presenting their work at the symposium should send a proposed title and brief description (ca. 200 words) to ubchasekura2025@gmail.com by February 28.
Call for Papers: McGill University’s Department of East Asian Studies Annual Graduate Symposium
We are delighted to invite submissions for the upcoming graduate symposium hosted by the McGill Graduate Students’ Society for East Asian Studies (MGSSEAS), which will take place on April 26, 2025, in Montreal. This year’s theme, “Time, Term, and Turn,” seeks to examine generational transformations and intellectual challenges faced by emerging scholars while fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue on the evolution of academic methodologies and theoretical frameworks over time. Call for Papers: Buddhism and The Cold War
The Cold War era, stretching from the end of World War II in the late 1940s to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. It altered the configuration of academic institutions, affecting the study of Asia and of religions such as Buddhism. And Buddhists, Buddhist organizations, and scholars of Buddhism were and continue to be deeply affected by Cold War tensions, norms, and popular consciousness. We encourage papers that explore Buddhism in relation to the Cold War centered on any geographical region, transnational flow, or from the perspective of any actor (individual, group, state, or other). The deadline for submission is March 10.
Applications Open: Wall Research Awards (Master’s and PhD students)
Graduate awards, ranging in value from $25,000 (for Master’s students) to $30,000 (for PhD students), have been made available through the Peter Wall Legacy Fund, an endowment established by Peter Wall, for graduate students whose thesis/dissertation research relates to specific areas of interest. Apply by March 31.
