Research Seminar Series: Standing Up to Our Fear - Understanding the links between emotion, balance and falls.
February 7, 2024 at 12:00 - 1:00pm
Emotions such as fear and anxiety have been strongly linked to balance instability, dizziness and falls. While traditionally, fear and anxiety were only considered to be the negative outcomes of a prior fall, more recent evidence suggests these factors can directly influence balance performance and future fall risk. In this presentation, we will discuss new evidence supporting emotion-balance interactions and the implications for the assessment, prevention and treatment of balance deficits and falls.

Join the Creative Collective
We are currently recruiting participants to join the Creative Collective, an initiative that spotlights art created by members of the BCBWP community.  Art can be anything from pottery, paintings, photographs, poetry, recipes, gardening arrangements and so much more… we would love to see it all! The project highlights the importance of creative expression in brain wellness and hopes to encourage more people to use art as a form of healthy expression, relaxation, coping and growth.

Our 2023 Virtual Art Exhibition was a huge success and source of inspiration for all creatives in our community. To learn more, watch the event recording. If you would like to submit your expressive work, please fill out this Google Form or email us at brain.wellness@ubc.ca, subject line "Creative Collective" and we will be in touch.
