Beyond Diversity: Embedding a Culture of Inclusive Excellence in Medicine

Join us for the third annual REDI symposium on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 12–3:15 pm. During this year's symposium, we will focus on embedding inclusive excellence into various domains of academic medicine, and discuss a range of topics including teaching, mentorship, leadership, research and patient care.

The symposium will feature Adam Neufeld, Allison Brown, Catherine Macala, Derek Thompson – Thlaapkiituup, Heather Buckley, Niresha Velmurugiah, Peggy DeJong, Saleem Razack and Wiley Chung, and will be co-moderated by Maï Yasué and Saleem Razack.

Join our first hybrid Indigenous Speakers Series session on Wednesday, September 25 from 9 am–4 pm. In this unique session, we are honoured to welcome back past guests from the Survivors of the Indian Residential School Experience session and the children of Survivors session for a transformative conversation between generations. Both generations are courageous Survivors of the continuing legacy of this horrific chapter in Canada’s history.

First, Do No Harm: Developing Trauma-Informed Medical and Health Professional Education Practice

Join Faculty Development virtually on Thursday, May 23 from 5–6:30 pm for a conversation on trauma-informed education. At the end of the session, participants will be able to describe how trauma-informed education can support inclusive environments, and implement practical tips to prevent and de-escalate instances when learners’ emotions are activated through curricular content.

REDI Word of the Month: Intergroup Dialogue

Intergroup dialogue is a face-to-face, structured and facilitated group experience that creates opportunities for participants to listen deeply, engage in self-reflection and gain new perspectives on polarizing societal issues. Dialogues have helped to build relationships between conflicting groups, reduce polarization, promote increased self-awareness about biases and strengthen diverse groups' abilities to work together towards common goals.
