Driver Safety: Remember to turn on your headlights
Fall is a beautiful season, but it’s also a time when road and weather conditions make driving a little tougher. The days are getting shorter, which means you will be spending more time driving in the dark with reduced visibility.
A quick reminder to vehicle operators to turn on vehicle headlights when driving. This weekend is also daylight savings where we fall back one hour, so the darkness will be around longer.
Stay safe on the road this Fall season with these smart driving tips:
- Make sure your lights are in working order
- Use your low beams or fog lights in fog conditions
- Give yourself plenty of room to come to a stop at intersections and when following other vehicles
- Approach all crosswalks and intersections with caution as it will be harder to see pedestrians and cyclists
- Be aware of leaves on the road. Both wet and frozen leaves are very slippery
- Keep sunglasses on hand for those days when there is high sun glare
- Make sure you have a scrapper in your car to clean frost off the windows. Warm your car up and ensure you have good visibility before you drive.

Thank you for participating in Pumpkin Carving for the Kids!
Thank you to all those who came in their Halloween best. After a two-year hiatus, it was wonderful to see the Cariboo Daycare children in their costumes (with parents and staff too!).
On a sunny day that swept the clouds away, led by that sweet air of pumpkin tart, can you tell me who got the most staff votes? It’s the Metal Shop’s Sesame Street (#1)!
Second place goes to Red/Blue Zone's pumpkin carriage (#2).
This year’s children’s favourite is from the North Gardening crew (#4).
Special mention to Municipal (#5) and the Carpenter Shop (#3).
Special thanks go to Barb Shimizu for leading the kids to the atrium, and to Gardenia Honorio, Shelly Liu and Wendy Lam for helping with the event.

Welcome to the team

EDI: Ensuring employment equity at UBC
Last summer, the federal government introduced the Pay Equity Act, which ensures workers in federally regulated workplaces are paid equally for equal work and employers provide notice of their pay equity process.
At UBC, we are committed to equity in employment, with the fundamental principle for recruitment and retention of faculty and staff being individual achievement and merit.
Published annually, the Employment Equity Report provides an overview of hiring and employment practices put in place to create and sustain equitable, diverse and inclusive workplaces at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan.
Read UBC's 2020 Employment Equity Report or review a summary of the report on the UBC Equity & Inclusion website.
Emergency tip: Disaster Response Routes
