Nutrition Month 2025

Join us in celebrating Nutrition Month through our three student-led workshops on March 11, 18 and 25 presented by graduate students in the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics program at UBC. These workshops will include engaging activities, practical tips, and easy recipes so you can confidently take steps to improve your nutritional wellbeing. In-Person Workshop - Let the Arts do Your Talking
Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, Room 3402

Come join us for an art session that will let you use colour, shape and imagery to express what is meaningful to you. Discover how the creative process can foster healing and mental well-being. Light snacks will be provided at the end. No prior art experience is required.

Wellness Wednesday - Thriving With Nature: How Green Spaces Support Health and Well-being
Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. This is a hybrid event taking place in-person at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health and on Zoom.

Join us for our April Wellness Wednesday with Dr. Ingrid Jarvis! The talk will explore how urban green spaces – like parks, gardens, and trees – support human health and well-being, with a focus on aging. We will discuss theories behind nature-health connections, existing evidence, and how this knowledge can help create healthier communities.

Nitobe Memorial Garden Tour
Wednesday, April 16 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. This in-person event will take place at Nitobe Memorial Garden on the UBC Vancouver campus. 

Come join us for an in-person guided tour of the Nitobe Memorial Garden, one of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan. Carefully cultivated to provide year-round beauty, the garden is especially photogenic in spring and fall when colourful cherry blossoms and maple leaves brighten the tranquil pathways.

Parkinson's Disease Awareness Day
Wednesday, April 9 from 10:00 AM to 2:00. This is a hybrid event taking place in-person at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health and on Zoom. 

Join the Pacific Parkinson’s Research Centre and the Movement Disorders Clinic to celebrate Parkinson’s Awareness Month! This event will feature an educational talk on “Living Well with PD”, an in-person art workshop, resource booths, and a bake sale to raise funds to help members of our PD community.

The Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Aging is proud to partner with Providence Health Care to deliver the Dialogue on Aging Public Presentation Series. The series features distinguished speakers who present on broad topics in current aging research to share findings with the community.

Healthy Living and Aging with Our Microbes with Dr. Brett Finlay, Ph.D
Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Zoom

The microbiome has a profound influence on human health and disease, including aging processes. We will discuss what the microbiome is, and its various roles in human health and disease. Its many roles in aging will be discussed, including many proactive things one can do to impact both the microbiome and healthy aging.

Parkinson's Disease and Music Appreciation
This study is recruiting participants who are living with Parkinson's Disease, with or without musical experience. Participants will partake in a 1-2 hour session assessing competency and appetency in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. Since these sessions can be conducted virtually, participation is open to individuals across Canada. If you are interested in participating, please contact Nina at: nbaya063@uottawa.ca.
