ASIA 490Z Asian Classics - Fourth Year Seminar - ASIA CLSSCS SEM

This course will explore the transitional journey of Third Culture Kids (TCKs) throughout the high education system. Using a post-colonial framework, the seminar will engage with topics such as culture shock, assimilation, classroom power dynamics, and intersectionality. Interested students should send a short statement of interest to clayton.ashton@ubc.ca and enroll on the waitlist. Students will be moved into the course after approval from the faculty sponsor.

Beyond Your Limit: CLP’s Holistic Training Approaches to the Success of TAWLs

Recently, the Chinese Language Program (CLP) launched a holistic training program to help their TAWLs bond with their fellow team members and become closer to their career aspirations. This program consists of enjoyable team-building events such as watching The Devil Wears Prada together and personalized opportunities for career development such as one-on-one mentorship workshops. These opportunities help the CLP TAWLs further their workplace connections, build positive work attitudes, and gain transferable skills.

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme aims to enhance internationalization in Japan by promoting mutual understanding between Japan and other nations through fostering ties between Japanese youth and foreign, young professionals, from 57 countries. Participants have the opportunity to gain valuable overseas work experience, learn about Japanese language and culture, and meet participants from around the world, while contributing to English language education and international understanding.The deadline for the 2023 Application Cycle is set for November 14.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Announcement: Program on U.S.-Japan Relations, Harvard University

Scholars in social science who are conducting research on Japan’s external relations are invited to apply to become a postdoctoral fellow for the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations. This program is part of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs (WCFIA) at Harvard University and knowledge of the Japanese language is not required. The deadline to apply is December 16.
