Dr. Helena Wu named as new Canada Research Chair in Hong Kong Studies

We are thrilled to share that Dr. Helena Wu has been named as new Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Hong Kong Studies. Her CRC program is committed to fostering interdisciplinary engagement; offering critical reflections on history, identity, and diaspora; and respecting differences, diversity, and subaltern voices through the study of Hong Kong culture and society as well as Hong Kong-Canada relationship.

Help your professor help you succeed: CLP’s professional development workshop on how to request a reference letter

Reference letters are critical when it comes to job hunting, scholarships or grad school. Recently, the Chinese Language Program (CLP) hosted a Professional Development Workshop on How to Request a Reference Letter to help their current student employees gain insight on a professor’s perspective and some etiquette to keep in mind before requesting a reference letter.

Dr. Pasang Yangjee Sherpa attended COP27 as one of the ten UBC delegates

Dr. Pasang Yangjee Sherpa is one of the UBC faculty delegates for the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 27), held in Egypt this month. She was a featured expert for the "Climate Conversations" on November 15, where she launched the Knowledge Justice Collective. As a founding member of the collective, she and her colleagues organized the panel discussion on “Indigenous Knowledge in Global Climate Science, Policy and Action” at the U.S. Center at COP 27.

Partnership Recognition and Exploration (PRE) Fund

Get up to $1,500 for community-university collaboration and relationship building. Every day, people on and off-campus work together on joint initiatives that benefit both the community and UBC. Whether it’s engaged research, experiential learning, planning and policy development, educational programming, dialogue projects, workshops and beyond — our impact grows when we work together. PRE funding is available from July to December 31, OR until available funds are exhausted.
