Meiji University Short-term Japanese Language Program

Meiji University is currently accepting applications for their short-term exchange program for Winter 2023. This opportunity will allow you to immerse yourself in Japanese language study, cultural activities, and life at Meiji University. Application is currently open until November 13. 

Applications for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme 2023 are open!

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme aims to enhance internationalization in Japan by promoting mutual understanding between Japan and other nations through fostering ties between Japanese youth and foreign, young professionals, from 57 countries. Participants have the opportunity to gain valuable overseas work experience, learn about Japanese language and culture, and meet participants from around the world, while contributing to English language education and international understanding.The deadline for the 2023 Application Cycle is set for November 14.

Call for Papers: State of Hong Kong Studies—A Workshop

Students or scholars who are looking to contribute to Hong Kong studies are welcome to apply for this workshop The focus is on demonstrating the current state of Hong Kong within specific subtopics such as shifting paradigms, variegated praxes, manifold constituents, and variable scales. The deadline to apply is November 15. 

2022 Japanese Language Program Writing Contest – さくぶんコンテスト

Would you like an opportunity to exercise your Japanese in a creative way? The UBC Japanese Language Program is holding a writing contest for students who are enrolled in 2022 Winter Term 1. Submit your entry by November 20.

Laura Bassi Scholarship

The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines. All currently enrolled master’s and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are academics in the first five years of full-time employment. The deadline to apply is December 1. 

Postdoctoral Fellowship Announcement: Program on U.S.-Japan Relations, Harvard University

Scholars in social science who are conducting research on Japan’s external relations are invited to apply to become a postdoctoral fellow for the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations. This program is part of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs (WCFIA) at Harvard University and knowledge of the Japanese language is not required. The deadline to apply is December 16.

Submissions Open for the UBC Journal of Historical Studies 2022-2023 Edition

UBC Journal of Historical Studies is a student-run publication that publishes an edition of high quality undergraduate work every year. They are currently looking for students who are interested in submitting their papers for a chance of publication. Submissions are open until December 26.

Partnership Recognition and Exploration (PRE) Fund

Get up to $1,500 for community-university collaboration and relationship building. Every day, people on and off-campus work together on joint initiatives that benefit both the community and UBC. Whether it’s engaged research, experiential learning, planning and policy development, educational programming, dialogue projects, workshops and beyond — our impact grows when we work together. PRE funding is available from July to December 31, OR until available funds are exhausted.
