Weekly Emergency Tip: Beware of aftershocks

After an earthquake, expect hundreds if not thousands of smaller earthquakes called aftershocks. They can continue for weeks, if not months after the initial event.

Remember to Drop, Cover and Hold on for each aftershock you experience.

For more information, visit the UBC Emergency Prepared website and Government of BC’s website.

EDI: February is Black History Month

While we should celebrate Black history and excellence every day, this is an opportunity for a focused, intentional and elevated reflection and recognition of Black history and achievement – and the many historical and contemporary contributions of Black Canadians, Black British Columbians and Black students, faculty and staff at UBC.

Attend one of many UBC events happening this month

“Part of what we tend to do with history we don’t consider significant, like Black history, is put it in a box, as something that exists only in the past,” Dr. Wright, who is the director of UBC’s Centre for Culture, Identity & Education.

Read about how piecing together the knowledge gaps of BC’s Black history can help us better understand the current Black community in BC and Canada, available on UBC Beyond.
