New Book of Hindi and Urdu Poetry by Gurinder Mann
Congratulations to Gurinder Mann, our Lecturer in Punjabi Language and Culture, on his new publication Khiyaalon Ka Savera (The Morning of Thoughts)! His second book, it is a collection of Hindi and Urdu poetry, written in the Devanagari (Hindi) script.

Embark on a Chinese Language Odyssey: CLP’s Imagine UBC 2023 Extravaganza
This year, the Chinese Language Program (CLP) donned traditional Chinese attire for Imagine UBC, to inspire interest in the Chinese language and its rich traditions. This not only showcased the beauty of Chinese culture, but also piqued students’ curiosity, encouraged exploration and sparked engagement with the language program.

Call for Proposals: Liu Lobby Gallery 2023 – 24, Art as a Vehicle for Social Change
The Lobby Gallery at UBC’s Liu Institute of Global Issues invites artists and researchers involved in arts-based endeavors to submit solo/group exhibition proposals for display from January to August 2024. The theme, Art as a Vehicle for Social Change, showcases the role art can play in raising awareness, inspiring action, and driving change. No need to be part of the UBC community to apply, but preference will be given to related/current Liu Scholars and their work. Artists can apply for up to $1,500 and applications are due October 20.
Applications for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme 2024 are open!
The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme is a Japanese government-sponsored exchange programme that offers university graduates opportunities to work in Japan either as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) team teaching with a Japanese Teacher of English or as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) in selected local government offices in Japan. Participants can gain valuable work and life experience, learn about Japanese language and culture, and meet other participants from around the world. The deadline for the 2024 Application Cycle is on November 14.
