UBC receives $4.9 million for global Buddhist academic network
The University of British Columbia will lead an international network of universities to advance the study of Buddhism and East Asian cultures, thanks to a $4.9-million donation from the China-based Liuzu Temple of Chan Buddhism.

Khyentse Foundation gifts UBC Asian Studies $524,850
This donation funds the hiring of a post-doctoral research fellow or a visiting faculty member in Tibetan Buddhist Studies and a lecturer in Tibetan Language Studies. The funds will re-establish Asian Studies as a major centre for the study of Tibetan Buddhism and the Tibetan language.

Fuyubi Nakamura recieves the 2018 Canadian Museum Association Awards of Outstanding Achievement in Research
Winning in the Art Category, Traces of Words: Art and Calligraphy from Asia, led by Dr. Fuyubi Nakamura, aimed to enhance the understanding of the cultural significance of calligraphy across Asia. The project was on exhibition at the Museum of Anthropology from May to October in 2017.
