The Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program awards up to $1.65M over six years to create training programs for highly qualified personnel. Internal competition deadline Feb. 24. Letter of Intent deadline May 1.
 
Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research
Support for Health-Research Trainees to Advance Their Careers
Recent PhD graduates or health professionals eligible for fellowships (or equivalent) are invited to apply for MSFHR’s Research Trainee Program to support them in protecting their time for health research activities. Full application deadline Mar. 29.
 
Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council
Accelerate Pre-competitive Development of Promising Technologies

Dr. Rachel Fernandez Announced as Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation
A professor in the department of microbiology and immunology, Dr. Fernandez joins Drs. Matthew Evenden and Philip Barker as Associate Vice-Presidents under the leadership of Vice-President Dr. Gail Murphy. She takes over from Dr. Helen Burt, who will be retiring in February.

UBC Faculty Appointed to Order of Canada Include Associate Vice-President, Research & Innovation, Dr. Helen Burt, and Dr. Daniel Heath Justice
Sixty-one new appointments, including current, former and emeritus UBC faculty members, were recently announced by the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada.

Sixteen New and Renewed UBC Canada Research Chairs Appointed
The Government of Canada invested approximately $195 million towards 260 new and renewed Chairs at 47 institutions across Canada including UBC.

New Interagency Research Funding Calendar
The Canada Research Coordinating Committee recently launched an integrated calendar of funding opportunities from Canada’s Tri-Agencies and the CFI. Note that UBC researchers should continue to follow internal ORS submission deadlines for their respective campuses to ensure administrative review and timely submission to any relevant funding opportunities.
