Operations updates

Facilities

Building Operations, Custodial Services, Customer Services & Informatics, Energy & Water Services, Infrastructure Development, and Municipal Services

  • ADES Leak detection system (LDS): In April, Energy & Water Services discovered that the Academic District Energy System (ADES)’s Leak Detection System (LDS) was indicating a fault. The team quickly mobilized and coordinated crews to excavate the underground Distribution Piping System (DPS) to locate the fault and complete a repair. Learn more 
     
  • UBC’s Furniture Reuse Program: UBC’s furniture reuse program provides gently-used furniture sold at discounted-prices. To date, the program has helped faculties and departments save a combined total of over $800,000 in cost avoidance. If you are starting a project or looking to purchase/discard gently-used furniture, consider purchasing, donating, or learn more by contacting furniture.reuse@ubc.ca

  • Upcoming Workday enhancements: See a list of potential upcoming enhancements on the ISC website, including launching the Expenses Hub, enabling the ability to add attachments to employment agreements, streamlining the process of extending contingent worker contracts and more. 
     
  • Workday Guided Tours: We’ve enabled the ‘guided tour’ feature for the Create Job Requisition, Request Absence, Request Leave of Absence and Place Worker on Leave business processes in Workday. A guided tour provides tips to help you fill out fields as you navigate through a task in Workday.

  • Thank you Michael CarrollSteve BlackettTyler CudmoreBrett Harris and Norman Esplana in Energy & Water Services’ Steamfitter crew for your continued dedication, hard work, and commitment to maintaining UBC’s district energy system. Last month, the team quickly mobilized to excavate the underground distribution piping system to locate a fault and complete a repair. Learn how the team continues to help the university avoid significant costs for repairs.

Jeet Amritsar, Facilities Manager, Customer Services & Informatics, UBC Facilities 

I oversee UBC's Teal Zone which includes 36 buildings across campus like Allard Hall, Chan Center for the Performing Arts, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Walter C. Koerner Library and more. If you come across an issue in your building, we're here to help. Find your Facilities Manager and their contact information.  

 

Notable updates

New BC Minimum Wage effective June 1, 2023

BC’s new minimum wage comes into effect on Thursday, June 1. The general minimum hourly rate is changing from $15.65 to $16.75.

UBC launches Activate Wellbeing Toolkit to promote mental health and wellbeing
