Exhibition: Leslie Cheung 張國榮: Hong Kong Icon (1956-2003)
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the untimely passing of Hong Kong singer, actor, performer, and queer icon Leslie Cheung Kwok-Wing. In honour of his memory, UBC Asian Library and the Department of Asian Studies are hosting an exhibition and display of publications, recordings, film posters, and other memorabilia from Cheung’s multi-faceted and transpacific life and career.

Lecturer Gurinder Mann's debut book of Punjabi poetry Jazbaatan Da Kinara
Jazbaatan Da Kinara (Coastline of Emotions) is a book of Punjabi poetry written by Gurinder Mann, Lecturer in Punjabi Language and Culture. Mann's poems touch upon various topics, issues, and sentiments, and he uses the tools of imagery, metaphor, and personification to illustrate emotions on the broad range of subjects presented.

Dr. Colleen Laird receives SSHRC Connection Grant on her collaborative project
Dr. Colleen Laird’s collaborative project on “Embodying the Video Essay: Advanced Methods in Videographic Theory Through Global Communities of Practice" was awarded the SSHRC Connection Grant! The SSHRC Connection Grant supports knowledge initiatives that explore social sciences and humanities within or outside of academia.

Job opportunity: 2023 Asian Studies Summer Sessional Lectureships
The Department of Asian Studies, University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus), invites applications for part-time sessional lecturers for the 2023 Summer Session to teach one or more of the Asian Studies courses. Apply by February 20, 2023.
Call for Applications: FROGBEAR Summer 2023 Field Visits
The FROGBEAR project is currently accepting applications for Summer 2023 field visits in East Asia. As this is the last year of FROGBEAR-funded field research, enrollment is limited to early career scholars who have not previously participated in FROGBEAR activities. Read the trip details on the FROGBEAR website and complete the application form by February 24, 2023.
UBC Undergraduate Prize in Library Research
The UBC Undergraduate Prize in Library Research is a way to showcase students’ effective and innovative use of library services, information experts and resources provided by the UBC Library. Applications for these prizes also provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their information-seeking experience, showcase their research beyond the classroom, and promote scholarship excellence at the undergraduate level at UBC. All prizes may not be awarded annually. Three prizes of $2,000 and two prizes of $1,000 are available. Apply by February 28.
Apply for the UBC Open Access Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences Research
The UBC Open Access Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences Research assists UBC faculty members who wish to publish in Open Access books and journals who are required to pay associated fees (APC’s). Approximately $75,000 is available annually and $4,000 maximum is available to an individual author or individual work each academic year. The fund takes applications starting on September 1st and until all funding is depleted.
FROGBEAR Mitacs Globalink Research Awards
The FROGBEAR project has an agreement with Mitacs to fund a limited number of interns under their Globalink Research Award program to support internships between partners in Canada and institutions in East Asia. FROGBEAR can assist in identifying a partner university in Asia where needed. See the FROGBEAR website for details. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis; however, projects must be completed by December 2023.
