The UBC Faculty of Medicine awards three national prizes to experts who demonstrate research excellence and innovation in the areas of cancer, brain disorders, and heart disorders. The prizes, each with a value of $50,000, are awarded to experts who demonstrate research excellence and innovation in the areas of cancer, brain disorders, and heart disorders. | Deadline: February 28, 2024

Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Fellowship NEW

The Canadian Academy of Health Sciences recognizes individuals of great accomplishment and achievement in the academic health sciences in Canada.  Election to fellowship in the Academy is considered one of the highest honours for individuals in the Canadian health sciences community and carries with it a covenant to serve the Academy and the future well-being of the health sciences. 

Three letters of nomination are required. Normally at least one of the nominators is a Fellow; however, CAHS will consider applications where none of the nominators are CAHS Fellows. | Deadline: March 6, 2024

King Faisal Prize in Medicine 2024

The King Faisal Prize (KFP) recognizes the outstanding works of individuals and institutions in five major categories: Service to Islam, Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, Medicine, and Science. Its aim is to benefit Muslims in their present and future, inspire them to participate in all aspects of civilization, as well as enrich human knowledge and develop mankind. KFP laureates are evaluated only based on merit and their works are meticulously examined by specialized selection committees. The strict selection procedure meets international standards, and many of the laureates who have been awarded the prize went on to receive other prestigious prizes, such as the Nobel Prize. | FoM internal nomination deadline: March 15, 2024

Royal Society of Canada - McLaughlin Medal NEW

The McLaughlin Medal was established in 1978 by the RSC through the generosity of the R. Samuel McLaughlin Foundation to recognize distinguished achievement in medical sciences in Canada. The medal is awarded for important research of sustained excellence in any branch of medical sciences. The gold plated silver medal is awarded every year if there is a suitable candidate. | Deadline: March 15, 2024

Faculty of Medicine Summer Student Research Program 
The Faculty of Medicine Summer Student Research Program (FoM SSRP) is a competition open to MD (Years 1 & 3 in 2021) and non-MD undergraduate students registered at UBC. It provides funding for a summer research project supervised by a member of the Faculty of Medicine (FoM). Funding of up to $3200 is provided in the form of a student stipend; supervisors are responsible for all other expenses. Applications are submitted by student-supervisor teams. To be eligible, supervisors must have a current faculty appointment (instructor or higher, including clinical) in the FoM at UBC. This includes affiliate FoM appointments.

Increase in direct travel and SAP-concur service fee effective February 1, 2024
Following the recent comprehensive formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process conducted by BCNet, and the subsequent careful consideration and negotiations in light of the evolving travel industry landscape since COVID-19, there will be an adjustment to the travel management company service fees including SAP-Concur fees.  These increases are deemed necessary to ensure Direct Travel can continue delivering high-quality service and support from their dedicated post-secondary advisory team and support services for SAP-Concur, UBC’s online booking tool.
