UBC Faculty of Medicine: 2023 Seminar Series Fund 
Description: The purpose of the fund is to provide secondary support for interdisciplinary seminars of educational value with up to $1,500 per seminar series. Only one application per UBC Faculty of Medicine department, centre/institute or school will be accepted. Heart & Stroke, CIHR, and Brain Canada: 2023 Doctoral and Master's Personnel Awards for Indigenous Scholars
Description: These new awards aim to promote strategic growth in heart and brain health science with Indigenous communities by supporting Indigenous students to pursue their post graduate studies.

Schmidt Science Polymaths Award NEW

The program will identify and support innovative scientific researchers at this pivotal moment (and potentially the most productive time of their careers) by providing the resources that allow them to substantively explore new lines of research. Instead of focusing on specific research ideas, the goal for the program is to bet on people, their special talent, and their teams.

Faculty of Medicine has been asked to submit up to 2 nominees to the Office of VP Research & Innovation. FoM is seeking assistance with identifying up to 2 nominees per unit (Department/School) that would meet the eligibility criteria and could take advantage of this competitive opportunity. | FoM internal nomination deadline: August 8

Wiley Prize in Biomedical Sciences

The Wiley Prize in Biomedical Sciences is intended to recognize breakthrough research in pure or applied life science research that is distinguished by its excellence, originality, and impact on our understanding of biological systems and processes. The award may recognize a specific contribution or series of contributions that demonstrate the nominee's significant leadership in the development of research concepts or their clinical application. Particular emphasis will be placed on research which champions novel approaches and challenges accepted thinking in the biomedical sciences. | Deadline: August 31

Event: Visiting Professor Lecture: Dr. Francesca Capon “Using single cell omics to inform therapeutic strategies for skin inflammation” NEW
Description: Dr. Francesca Capon obtained a BSc in Biological Sciences and PhD in Medical Genetics from “La Sapienza” University of Rome, Italy. Her interest in the genetics of psoriasis brought her to the UK. She first moved to the University of Leicester as a WellcomeTrust Traveling Research Fellow, then took on a Lectureship in Human Molecular Genetics at University College London. She joined King’s College London as a Lecturer, was promoted to Senior Lecturer, Reader, and Professor.

Event: Indigenous Wellbeing Gathering Conference NEW
