2023 Quiz on Korea
Hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver and in partnership with the Department of Asian Studies at UBC, Quiz on Korea is an annual gameshow that quizzes non-Korean adults on their knowledge of Korean culture, social news, history, etc. Possible prizes include Apple AirPods, Apple Watch, Apple iPad Air, and the grand prize is a free trip to Korea for the final round. Check your elligibility and apply by April 26.
Open Scholarship for Education
The Program for Open Scholarship and Education (POSE) is a three-month online program that will help develop foundational knowledge of Open Scholarship, Open Education, and Open Research. There is also opportunity for optional synchronous sessions each month where one can engage with various practitioners in the different areas of open scholarship. Registration is open until May 1.
8th JLPP International Translation Competition
The JLPP is a project sponsored by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote awareness and appreciation of Japanese literature, as well as to nurture aspiring translators. Three prize winners will be selected and they will be awarded a certificate, a trophy, an opportunity to participate in translation developmental programs, and a monetary prize of ¥1,000,000 for Grand Prize Winners. Submissions will be accepted starting June 1.
Apply for the UBC Open Access Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences Research
The UBC Open Access Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences Research assists UBC faculty members who wish to publish in Open Access books and journals who are required to pay associated fees (APC’s). Approximately $75,000 is available annually and $4,000 maximum is available to an individual author or individual work each academic year. The fund takes applications starting on September 1 and until all funding is depleted.
FROGBEAR Mitacs Globalink Research Awards
The FROGBEAR project has an agreement with Mitacs to fund a limited number of interns under their Globalink Research Award program to support internships between partners in Canada and institutions in East Asia. FROGBEAR can assist in identifying a partner university in Asia where needed. See the FROGBEAR website for details. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis; however, projects must be completed by December 2023.
